Ed Avis is a writer, editor, and book producer who specializes in the imaging industry. Avis founded Modern Reprographics magazine in 1993, after a brief stint as editor of IRgA's Plan & Print magazine. He previously had been a newspaper and magazine editor. He developed Modern Reprographics from the ground up into the leading publication in reprographics. He sold Modern Reprographics to Cygnus Business Media in 1998. They subsequently renamed it Wide-Format Imaging, which still exists. Avis remained editor/publisher until 2000, when he left and started book publisher Marion Street Press, Inc. He didn't stop following reprographics though -- he continues to write about the industry for Repro Report magazine. In 2008 he wrote The Green Reprographics Handbook, and he writes a regular column for Repro Report about green reprographics issues.
Avis' work at Marion Street Press gave him valuable experience in book publishing. He has edited/published nearly 50 books in the past nine years, including four that were touted in The New York Times and many that received publicity in countless other publications, radio broadcasts, and TV programs. He knows how to create a successful book. He sold Marion Street Press to Acorn Guild Press in Portland, Oregon in 2009.
Avis also is a freelance writer and author. His articles have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Crain's Chicago Business, Your Money, Kiwanis, and scores of other newspapers and magazines. You can read a few of his clips at edaviswriter.com.
Avis' skills in newspaper, magazine, and book publishing have come together in Ed Avis Associates. He manages the production of sponsored books, infoletters, and Webchecks. And he doesn't work alone -- other experienced writers and designers complement Avis' skills. Whatever product or service you choose, your image will be enhanced each time you work with Ed Avis Associates.
